  4. Cognito is shareware. Use Cognito for 10 days. If you like the game and want 
  5. to keep it, send $5 to:

  13. Installation
  14. ------------

  16. All Cognito files must be in the same directory on your hard drive. I recommend 
  17. that you create a directory for the files. The files are:
  18.  
  19.         Cognito.EXE
  20.         Cognito.HLP
  21.         Cognito0.WAV
  22.         Cognito1.WAV
  23.         Cognito2.WAV
  24.         Cognito3.WAV
  25.         Cognito4.MID
  26.         Cognito5.WAV
  27.  
  28. NOTE: Although it is possible to run Cognito from a floppy diskette, this 
  29. is NOT recommended. The speed will be so slow, you'd have to be much 
  30. more patient than I to enjoy playing this way.

  32. 1) From Windows, highlight the group to which you want to add Cognito 
  33. (e.g. Games).
  34.  
  35. 2) Select File|New to create an Item.
  36.  
  37. 3) Either enter the full pathname, or use Browse to select COGNITO.EXE.
  38.  
  39. 4) Set the Working Directory to be the same as where you have put the 
  40. Cognito files.
  41.  
  42. NOTE: If you do not set the working directory, Cognito may not be able to
  43. find the WAV files. Also, Cognito creates a DAT file to store the high 
  44. scores and the game status. If you do not set the working directory, this
  45. file will be created in your root directory.

  47. 5) Click OK.

  49. You are now ready to play Cognito. The online Help contains complete 
  50. instructions on How to Play.

  52. Limited Hard Drive
  53. ------- ---- -----
  54. If you have limited space on your hard drive, you can turn the sound off, 
  55. and then delete the MID and WAV files.

  70. Sound
  71. -----
  72. On start up, Cognito will check your system for MIDI and WAV sound 
  73. compatibility. If you do not have either capability on your system, Cognito 
  74. will display an applicable error message and will then disable the sound. 
  75. The next time you open Cognito, the sound will be turned off. If you have 
  76. made any system alterations, you may then try turning the sound back on, at 
  77. which point Cognito will again attempt to initialize the sound.

  79. NOTE: You must have a valid Windows sound driver installed in order for 
  80. Cognito to play sound. Consult your windows manual for more information on 
  81. installing drivers. Also check any documentation which came with your sound 
  82. card.

  84. Graphics
  85. --------
  86. Your graphics card must be able to support a 256 colour palette.
  87.  
  88. NOTE: If you have an ATI Graphic card with Mach Utilities, use the FlexDesk 
  89. control panel (Advanced settings) to ensure that the 256 colour palette is 
  90. turned on. You may still use Cognito with the palette off, but the colour 
  91. quality will be reduced.
